This is a quick look reference diagram that displays some common terms associated with a Major scale. The example is shown in the key of C.
The first line is the familiar Do - Re - Mi sequence.
The second line shows the notes of the C Major scale.
The third line shows the Roman Numerals representing the degree or step of the scale.
The fourth line shows the degree or step within the scale in our numbering system.
The fifth line shows the placement of the whole and half steps. It is very important to understand the placement of the half steps is always between the 3rd and 4th tone and the 7th and 8th(octave) tones. This is always the case in a a Major scale and is easy to remember.
The fifth line shows the the scale step names and function of the different scale terms.
