Six note Am or A minor blues scale for guitar / Six note Am blues scale with flatted 5th (E)

This page will present the six note Am blues scale and all patterns associated with this blues scale. This scale includes the flatted 5th tone (E) of the A minor scale. There may be a very valid argument to call this tone a sharpened 4th (D#) but, generally, the note is referred to as the flatted 5th when referring to this within the context of the blues. Personal take that could be proven wrong by a musical theorist out there. Please let us know if you know the definitive answer.

The distinguishing note is that peculiar flatted 5th notes (E). This is the tone that provides much of the singular tonality of the blues. This additional note, when added to the Am pentatonic scale, and played with taste, conveys much of the emotion and mystery of the blues. You have to dig to find emotion, and dig deeper still to share it.

The notes of the Am six note blues scale are:

A - C - D - E - E - G
